THE MYTH OF THE "ETHNIC ALBANIANS" OF ATTICA

The propagandists, in yet another attempt to falsify modern Greek history, claim that Athens and Attica were entirely populated by ethnic Albanians. As proof, they cite the records of foreign travelers where, among other things, they state that the Greek language is not spoken anywhere in Attica and that the inhabitants are all Albanians.

However, they are completely refuted by the testimony of a native Athenian and revolutionary of 1821, Dionysios Sourmelis, who in his book "Summary situation of the city of Athens" gives the following information:

• «Because Muslim Albanians were privileged [by the Ottomans] , ๐˜๐—ต๐—ฒ ๐—ถ๐—ป๐—ต๐—ฎ๐—ฏ๐—ถ๐˜๐—ฎ๐—ป๐˜๐˜€ ๐—ผ๐—ณ ๐˜๐—ต๐—ฒ ๐˜ƒ๐—ถ๐—น๐—น๐—ฎ๐—ด๐—ฒ๐˜€, being all farmers in order to have relations and to be accustomed to them for their benefit, ๐˜„๐—ฒ๐—ฟ๐—ฒ ๐—ณ๐—ผ๐—ฟ๐—ฐ๐—ฒ๐—ฑ ๐˜๐—ผ ๐—”๐—น๐—ฏ๐—ฎ๐—ป๐—ถ๐˜‡๐—ฒ ๐˜๐—ต๐—ฒ๐—บ๐˜€๐—ฒ๐—น๐—ฒ๐˜ƒ๐—ฒ๐˜€ […] And the last of the Albanized were the inhabitants of Acharnae and Maroussi, who had accepted Albanianism in the middle of the 18th century» (p.83)

Sourmelis predicted that the propagandists would find the opportunity to back up their lies and he wrote:
